The student responses, were illuminating and indicative of a problem largely unrecognised by teachers. However, the students had become more sensitive to the issues because of the recent instruction in the Alexander Technique they had received.

Two students from the group decided to focus their major study on the issue and this led to an opportunity for Grant Ragsdale to visit and observe them and their pupils in the school context. His report endorsed the students comments and added an expert professional dimension to their findings.

The initial project led to the development of a much more substantial study module that provided the workshop components plus lectures and readings. Considerable emphasis was placed upon ways of contrasting natural good use with its deterioration in later childhood, adolescence and adult life.
