The Leeds Metropolitan Project

The Leeds Metropolitan University Project started in September 1998 as a result of discussions between Wendy Nuttall, School of Teaching and Education Studies at Leeds Metropolitan University, Sue Merry and a Leeds based Alexander Technique teacher, Grant Ragsdale.

The hypothesis they decided to test out was that even a rudimentary knowledge of the principles of the Alexander Technique was likely to help teachers better understand how classroom practice might help or impair the maintenance of children's natural good use, once they started school.

Student teachers in the final year of their primary education course were selected to participate in a series of workshops that were occurring at the same time as they were undertaking block teaching practice visits.
